Halloween Decorating with Cardboard Mailing Tubes

Halloween is just around the corner and their millions of ideas flooding the internet on decorations, costumes, and party favors. To make things a little easier for you, we’ve compiled some great halloween decoration ideas that are simple to make and look amazing. Using cardboard mailing tubes is a very inexpensive way to have scary, creepy, and fun looking Halloween decorations for indoor and outdoor use.

What you need:

  • Cardboard mailing tubes or alternate cardboard tubes
  • Hot glue gun
  • Flat black spray paint
  • LED tealight candles

Easy to get a cool, black drippy candle effect, perfect for Halloween. Use the glue gun to glue the cardboard tubes together to assemble them in any order you want. Then use the same glue gun to create the dripping effect.

Once the glue dries, apply at least one coat of the black spray paint. When the paint is dry, add the LED lights and you’re done!

Prison Shackles


What you need:

  • Two pieces of cardboard mailing tubes at least 2” in diameter
  • Foam core
  • Plastic chain (dollar store)
  • Paint of choice (this one uses a rust paint)
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Cut away about a ¼ inch piece from the cardboard tube and insert the foam core (cut a hole in the middle for the chain) and glue the seams together. Connect the chain to the foam core and use the paint of your choosing and you have some cool looking shackles to go with the rest of your Halloween decorations.

What you need:

  • At least 8 cardboard tubes
  • Large cardboard box for the body
  • Black and white paint
  • White construction paper
  • String
  • Hot glue gun
  • Regular glue

This is a perfect craft for the kids to help out with. Cut out the head of the skeleton using cardboard and use the white construction paper to make the ribs, fingers and toes. Use the string to piece together the cardboard tubes for the arms and legs. Here is step by step instruction.

 What you need:
  • Cardboard mailing tubes
  • Green striped stockings
  • Glue

Ding dong the witch is dead. Make a cool front door decoration using cardboard mailing tubes. You can use cotton batting if you don’t have cardboard tubes. Put stockings over the cardboard tubes and glue them under the mat and add some high heel shoes.

  1. My family goes all out when decorating for Halloween. I think some of these ideas would be great for them to use. I really like the dripping candle idea. It would look cool to have those around the front of the house. It would also be a lot cheaper than buying a bunch of big candles! Thanks for these ideas!
